I Have Muscles! Even If They Aren't Showing...

Under the title of this blog "Root of the Solution", I have a little motto:
"Eat like you love yourself. Move like you love yourself. Live like you love yourself."
And the reason I like this mantra is because I think it covers a lot. Eat to live. Move to feel good. Live the life of your dreams.
But I am guilty of getting caught up in the social media mentality that the sum of these three parts equals a smokin' hot bod.
This was really brought to my attention when I read the recent blog post by the Wellness Warrior about comparing herself to other "healthy" and "fitspo" social medialites out there.
There is nothing wrong with having goals or ambitions, especially

Rejuvenation in Paradise

What a wonderful place to do my first proper guided detox in a resort!
I stayed on the island of Koh Samui off the coast of southern Thailand and completed a seven day cleanse at Health Oasis Resort and Spa.
The staff at Health Oasis were lovely and helpful. No matter how many questions I had, they were always accommodating and lovely to talk to. I felt thoroughly informed about the cleanse protocol and where to find all the supplements and juice that I would need.
Beginning on day 3

Day 5 of Detox and New Goal

I have to say, detoxing is much easier when you are in a beautiful place like Thailand and surrounded by other people who are detoxing. I have been enjoying this much more than my usual cleanses when I have to go to work and school and keep on with all my activities. This has been such a detox for the mind as well.

Yesterday, I woke up feeling really light headed and during yoga I had a few moments where I felt like I was going to black out completely. I have a tendency toward low blood pressure already so I am guessing that's what was happening. After some more diluted juice and a psyllium bentonite clay shake, I felt better.

This morning I did yoga again and felt completely normal and I am even on a stationary bike getting some cardio in now as I type this! I feel light and empty and energetic today, even with the rain that decided to come in this morning.

And my new goal: I am going to challenge myself to do yoga every single day for the next 100 days. It doesn't have to be a yoga class or anything formal, but ten minutes, or thirty, or an hour. Whatever! Yoga makes me feel so alive and awake and peaceful and flexible. I want it as part of my daily life. And it is something I can do anywhere! Even while traveling! So that's the goal. Yoga every day starting today.

Hope you all are soig wonderfully and will post an update and full review of my experience here at health oasis in a couple of days! Namaste.

Detoxing in Thailand

I booked this trip over a year ago and now it is finally here! I arrived in Phuket, Thailand five days ago and spent the first three days simply exploring Phuket town and enjoyingthe fresh exotic fruit.
The reason I booked this trip to begin with was two of my school mates were moving to Koh Samui to work at a health and detox resort. A group of our friends were all sitting around talking about how we might try and visit them, but I jumped at the opportunity and booked my flights a year in advance!
So now I'm sitting here at Health Oasis Resort on Koh Samui, Thailand, listening to the ocean and sipping on juice. Throughouy the week I will post updates, information on the resort, and parts of my experience to hopefully spark some interest in what is already turning out to be a great cleanse!

Seed Cycling: Balancing Women's Hormones With Food

Balancing hormones is like...well, a balancing act. It can be quite a tricky aspect of health because so many factors play into our hormone levels. It can take quite a while to balance our hormones as well, and I have to admit, it is my Achilles' heel.
My hormones have been all over the board. Throughout the years, I have experienced everything from periods that were so painful I have passed out, vomited, or had to sit down wherever I am standing due to lower back pain, to losing my period for about 6 months. I have been anaemic, had headaches, mood swings, PMS...all of the above.
Even now on my journey to health, my hormones continue to cause some disturbance.
As of recent, I noticed my cycle getting shorter and shorter. 25 days...21 days...18 days. That's when I thought I needed to really tackle this because it is just unfair getting a period that often.
I casually mentioned this to one of my colleagues and she told me
